Promoting Safer and Therapeutic Services Training

Tackling violence against frontline staff in mental health and learning disability services is essential. There were 43,301 incidents of physical assault against NHS staff working in mental health and learning disability settings in 2004/05 in England, equivalent to one assault for every five staff*.

Promoting Safer and Therapeutic Services training assists staff in recognising, understanding, de-escalating and safely managing violent incidents. It enables professionals working in mental health and learning disability services to employ the appropriate intervention when dealing with violent situations, taking account of the safety of service users, colleagues and members of the public.

This training is a must for any NHS staff working in mental health and learning disability settings, who are in direct contact with patients and the public.
